The picture is from July 2018, and it’s the first day that I received a pre-production HandiCup! It’s the very first one!

Chris holding the first model of the handicupHi! My name is Chris and I’d like to take this minute to introduce myself and share a little bit about how I created the HandiCup.

Five years ago after my accident, life using a wheelchair suddenly became a reality. While still in rehab, and a little restless, I was feeling good and decided to go for a cruise with my power chair. For anyone living in Toronto, I travelled from Bayview & Eglington all the way to Yorkdale Shopping Mall! (13.5km/8mi)  By the time I arrived, I was suffering from heat stroke and severe dehydration. The paramedics had to come and ice me down to reduce my body temperature. It ended up being the hottest day of the summer.

I remember thinking - “this can’t happen again, there’s got to be a better way!”

Living using a wheelchair doesn’t stop us from living an independent and active lifestyle. I want to be able to continue living comfortably with my wheelchair, and not worry about running into that dehydration problem again.  All the conventional wheelchair cupholders on the market were either too flimsy or mounted so that they could be easily knocked off my chair. I needed something that would work for my limited hand function and would also never get knocked off. That’s when HandiCup was born!

Thank you for visiting my website, and if you know someone that may benefit from my product, please share this with them.
